Andre
Salcido began his art career at the age of five in kindergarten class, when his
inspired art
piece was run off on his grammar school's purple ditto machine for a group
exhibit. Throughout his childhood, he loved to watch cartoons and Japanese robot
action shows on his family's black and white television. At school Andre would
get into fierce competitions with classmates, jockeying for top position in drawing
the most ominous robot. In high school, he found a passion for figure drawing
and acrylic painting.
In college, Andre varied his studies with traditional studio art, film production,
photography, and computer graphics. He developed a love for the narrative aspects
of film and fiction writing, which he carried over into his art. Andre learned
experimental storytelling and multimedia as an intern at The George Coates Performance
Works, where he served as a storyboard artist and stagehand. He explored unique
approaches to visual art and storytelling, with projects ranging from fictional
anthropological exhibits, consisting of paintings and photo manipulations, to
linear storytelling efforts in 3-dimensional collage.
Following graduation from The Evergreen State College, Andre forged a career
in the graphic arts in the San Francisco Bay Area, serving on varied projects
from video games to film special effects, web design, and graphic design for print.
He now paints in a small studio in his home, producing works in oil on panel,
producing multiple ongoing series with subjects such as plants, monsters, fictional
biological phenomenon, as well as colorful abstracts. He is currently showing
in solo and group events in California.
